Hiking Tour: “Sommeralm tour starting from Stoakoglhütte”

This long but exciting tour starts at the Stoakoglhütte located in the beautiful Sommeralm alpine pasture and visits several highlights of the Almenland area. First the tour leads up to the summit of Streberkogel providing a scenic view towards Hochwechsel and Rax. The tour then descends back and follows the trail westwards up to the next summit, the Plankogel, offering again a scenic view, this time towards Schöckl. The tour then follows a nice hiking trail through the alpine pasture towards the wind generator and then further Kerschbaumgatterl. There the tour follows the trail north, passing by the Haberlstall and up to the next summit, the Zechnerschlag. The tour then descends directly and follows the hiking trail towards the village of Gasen. After a well-deserved break at one of the restaurants in Gasen, the tour then follows the Stoakogler Heimatwanderweg route in the opposite direction towards the Stoaniwelt Turm viewing platform. Finally, the tour follows the hiking trail back to the Stoakoglhütte.

Scenic tour up to Steberkogel, Plankogel, Kerschbaumgatterl, Zechnerschlag, Stanihaus, and Stoaniwelt Turm starting from Stoakoglhütte

Tour Description

00:00 Start at the parking lot Stoakoglhütte (e.g. GPS: 47.355804, 15.568807) and find your way eastwards through the mountain pasture up to the Streberkogel (above the street).
00:15 Enjoy the view from the first summit, the Streberkogel (SummitLynx checkpoint).
00:20 Descend back to the parking lot of Stoakoglhütte (same way as used for the ascent).
00:30 Pass by the Stoakoglhütte and follow the marked trail up to Plankogel (see signposts, follow the Plankogel Weg).
00:50 Enjoy the awesome view from the summit of Plankogel (SummitLynx checkpoint).
01:00 Descend towards the already visible wind generator, following the trail southwards.
01:10 Pass by the wind generator (SummitLynx checkpoint) and now follow the red-white-red marked trail northeastwards (Mariazellerweg).
01:35 At the Kerschbaumgatterl crossing (SummitLynx checkpoint), keep right and follow the trail 27 heading towards Haberlstallhütte (see signpost).
01:40 At the crossing, keep straight and follow the marked trail towards Stoahandhütte (see signposts).
01:50 At the Wallfahrerkreuz, turn right and follow the trail down towards Straßegg (see signpost) leading towards the Haberlstallhütte.
01:55 Bypass the Haberlstallhütte (consider an optional break for a refreshment if open) and keep left directly after the hut. Ascend directly following the unmarked trail leading up to Zechnerschlag.
02:05 Enjoy the view from Zechnerschlag (SummitLynx checkpoint), obviously best enjoyed with a self-brought refreshment ().
02:25 Find your way through the clearing down (head south). You will automatically cross the hiking trail 702 towards Gasen.
02:30 Turn left into the upper(!) hiking trail and follow this trail eastwards.
02:45 At the crossing, keep right and follow the trail descending towards Gasen (see signposts).
03:10 Optional detour: U-turn left and follow the trail towards the Stoani Hans viewpoint.
03:15 Head back to the main trail and continue following the hiking trail downwards towards Gasen.
03:20 At the crossing, stay straight and leave the forest road. Follow the hiking trail above that descends into the village of Gasen.
03:35 Well deserved break ( ) at one of the restaurants in Gasen.
04:30 Follow the road next to the church but U-turn left after the church into the Mühlen Fernwanderweg (see signpost). Follow the Stoakogler Heimatwanderweg (opposite direction) up into the forest.
04:45 At the crossing, keep straight and continue following the small trail (Stoakogler Heimatwanderweg). For the signposts, keep in mind that you walk from the opposite direction.
05:15 Hike up the Stoaniwelt Turm viewing platform (SummitLynx checkpoint). Enjoy the view from there, obviously best with a self-brought refreshment ().
05:30 Turn left (head east!) and follow the marked hiking trail behind the viewing platform, descending into the forest. Now follow this trail which brings you automatically back to the Stoakoglhütte.
06:15 Back at the Stoakoglhütte, end of the tour.
