An easy but scenic tour in the Viennese Alps, starting at the iconic “Kalte Rinne Viadukt” – one of the most impressive and gigantic piece of the Semmering railway track – up to the “Luckerte Wand”, a rock wall full of pass-through caves that are part of the route. The top of “Luckerte Wand” welcomes with a nice rest area providing an amazing view towards the “Rax” and the “Schneeberg”.

Scenic tour starting at the “Kalte Rinne Viadukt” up to the “Luckerte Wand” and its pass-through caves

The tour starts at the parking in front of the Kalte Rinne Viadukt – one of the most impressive and gigantic bridges of the Semmering railway track. The tour continues alongside the impressive Polleroswand and follows the street up till reaching the famous climbing area. The tour then follows the nice hiking trail alongside the climbing area. A detour and visit of the impressive Falkensteinhöhle (easily accessible via wooden stairs) is strongly recommended. The tour then continues and passes by the impressive Gaiskirchel, a church inside a cave. Continue following the trail north and then eastwards leads to the top of Luckerte Wand. It is strongly recommended to turn left before the viewpoint and descent to the pass-through caves of the Luckerte Wand. The markings lead through the caves and provide a nice hike through and around the Luckerte Wand. Finally, hiking up to the top and rest area of Luckerte Wand provides a promising view towards the Rax and the Schneeberg.
