Hiking Tour: “The 7 summits of Vienna”

This very long tour leads up to the 7 summits of Vienna: the “Kaltbründlberg”, “Hornauskogel”, “Dreihufeisenberg”, “Rosskopf”, “Schutzengelberg”, “Hermannskogel” and the “Vogelsangberg”. The tour starts at the St. Veiter Tor and first leads through the Lainzer Tiergarten to the scenic Wiener Blick view point. The tour then continues and hikes up to the first summit, the Kaltbründlberg with its viewing platform. From there the tour descends and then finds its way through the forest up to the second summit: the Hornauskogel. The tour descends back to the trail and follows the trail towards Hirschgstemm and further to the Laaber Tor. The tour then ascends again till reaching the third summit: the Dreihufeisenberg. The tour then descends into the valley and crosses the highway over a bridge and continues heading towards Wien-Weidlingau. The way then leads into the direction of Mauerbach and follows the Mostalm-Trail up to Sophienalpe and the forth summit: the Rosskopf. The tour then follows the trail eastwards which leads to the fifth summit: the Schutzengelberg. Hiking back a few meters and then turning left, the trail leads towards . After following the street for a few meters, the tour then takes the Gustav-Fischer-Steig to ascend to the six and highest summit: the Hermannskogel. From there the tour descends westwards towards the Jägerwiese and Grenzweg leads to the final summit: the Vogelsangberg. The tour finally follows the Grenzweg till reaching the Sulzwiese and the bus stop there.

This very long tour leads up to the 7 summits of Vienna: the Kaltbründlberg, Hornauskogel, Dreihufeisenberg, Rosskopf, Schutzengelberg, Hermannskogel and the Vogelsangberg. The tour starts at the St. Veiter Tor and first leads through the Lainzer Tiergarten to the scenic Wiener Blick view point. The tour then continues and hikes up to the first summit, the Kaltbründlberg with its viewing platform. From there the tour descends and then finds its way through the forest up to the second summit: the Hornauskogel (there is not designated trail). The tour descends back to the trail and follows the trail towards Hirschgstemm. After a well-deserved break at the Rasthaus Hirschgstemm, the tourn follows the street to the Laaber Tor. The tour then ascends again till reaching the third summit with a short detour: the Dreihufeisenberg. The tour then descends into the valley and crosses the highway over a bridge and continues heading towards Wien-Weidlingau. The way then leads into the direction of Mauerbach and follows the Mostalm-Trail up to Sophienalpe and the forth summit: the Rosskopf. The tour then follows the trail eastwards which leads to the fifth summit: the Schutzengelberg. Hiking back a few meters and then turning left, the trail leads towards . After following the street for a few meters, the tour then takes the Gustav-Fischer-Steig to ascend to the six and highest summit: the Hermannskogel. From there the tour descends westwards towards the Jägerwiese. After a final break at the Gasthaus zum Agnesbrünnl, the tour follows the Grenzweg westwards. A small detour leads to the final summit: the Vogelsangberg. The tour finally follows the Grenzweg till reaching the Sulzwiese and the bus stop there.
 

Tour Description

00:00 Start at the bus station Vienna St. Veiter Tor (line 54A) and follow the road eastwards through the parking and towards the gate to Lainzer Tiergarten.
00:01 Enter the Lainzer Tiergaten through its gate and turn right immediately. Follow the trail up north.
00:05 Turn left and follow the Wiener Blick Weg westwards.
00:10 Turn right and continue following the trail towards Wiener Blick.
00:15 Enjoy the awesome view from Wiener Blick towards the city of Vienna. Turn left here and continue following the trail westwards towards Rohrhauswiese.
00:30 Pass by the Rasthaus Rohrhaus (or optionally refresh yourself with a ), turn left and follow the trail towards Hubertuswarte (see wooden signposts).
00:45 Enter and mount the viewing platform Hubertuswarte. Check in at summit 1 and enjoy the view from Kaltbründlberg.
00:50 Continue following the trail westwards and descend towards the crossing.
00:53 At the crossing, stay straight and follow the ending forest road. Then find your way through the forest (simply keep straight) up to Hornauskogel.
00:55 Check in at summit 2: The Hornauskogel. Descend back to the crossing and then turn right and follow the trail southwestwards.
01:00 At the crossing, turn right and follow the trail towards Hirschgstemm.
01:10 Well-deserved break ( ) at Gasthaus Hirschgstemm.
01:40 Turn left and follow the street southwestwards towards Laaber Tor.
01:45 At the crossing, keep right and continue following the street towards Laaber Tor.
02:00 Leave the Lainzer Tiergarten through the Laaber Tor, and turn right immediately. Follow the shared trail (mountain-bike / hiking) northwards through the forest.
02:05 At the crossing, turn right and follow the hiking trail northwards.
02:10 Turn right and follow the marked forest road upwards alongside the wall of Lainzer Tiergarten.
02:18 At the crossing, first turn left and follow the forest street for a few meters to reach the summit of Dreihufeisenberg.
02:20 Check in at summit 3 Dreihufeisenberg (no visible peak!). Turn around and follow the trail eastwards back to the crossing and further (stay straight at the crossing and continue following the wall of Lainzer Tiergargen.
02:50 At the crossing, stay straight and leave the road. Follow the green marked trail northwards.
02:55 Turn right into the street and then cross the highway over its bridge. At the other side, enter through the gate and continue following the gravel road northwards.
03:20 Cross the main street (stay straight) at and follow the pathway towards the train station. Cross the Wienfluss and then the railway tracks through the tunnel of the train station.
03:25 After the train station, first turn left and then turn right into the small pathway. Hike up the stairs till reaching the upper road.
03:30 Turn right and follow the road eastwards. At the second crossing, turn left into the Buchbergstraße.
03:35 At the U-turn of the street, stay straight and follow the blue marked trail towards Vorderhainbach (see signposts).
03:55 After the sports arena, keep right and follow the forest street towards the street.
04:00 Turn left and follow the street for a few meters. Then at the first crossing, turn right and follow the Standwanderweg 8 (turn left again before the house).
04:35 Enjoy the view from Franz-Karl-Fernsicht and continue following the trail northwards towards Sophienalpe.
04:45 Well-deserved break () at Sophienalpe.
04:55 Follow the street northwestwards for a few meters and then turn right into the white-blue-white marked trail. Follow the trail for a few meters till the clearing.
05:05 Check in at summit 4 and enjoy the awesome view from Rosskopf. Then turn around and head back towards the street.
05:10 Turn sharp right, follow the street for a few meters and then turn left and follow the white-blue-white marked trail northwards (leave the street).
05:20 At the big crossing in the forest, keep straight for the moment and continue following the trail which leads towards Schutzengelberg.
05:30 Check in at summit 5: The Schutzengelberg (no real summit). Turn around and head back to the big crossing.
05:35 At the crossing, turn left and follow the trail eastwards towards Weidlingbach.
06:15 Cross the street and continue following the street towards Weidlingbach.
06:25 At the T-crossing, turn left and follow the street northwards.
06:30 Turn right into the Gustav-Fischer-Steig and follow the trail up to Hermannskogel (see yellow signposts).
06:55 At the crossing, keep slightly left and follow the marked trail (forest road) up to Hermannskogel.
07:05 Keep straight and continue following the trail up to Hermannskogel.
07:05 Check in at summit 6: the Hermannskogel. You might want to consider entering the Habsburgwarte (observe opening hours). Continue following the trail eastwards and descend (slightly steep) to Jägerwiese.
07:20 Well-deserved break () at Gasthaus zum Agnesbrünnl.
07:35 Follow the Grenzweg eastwards towards Kahlenberg (see yellow signposts).
07:40 Turn right into the visible but not marked small trail which leads up to Vogelsangberg. The trail can be easily overlooked!.
07:50 Check in at summit 7: the Vogelsangberg. Enjoy the view towards Vienna and then continue following the small trail which leads back to Grenzweg. Follow the Grenzweg towards Sulzwiese.
07:58 Keep straight ahead and follow the trail towards the street.
08:00 Arrival at the bus station Sulzwiese. End of the tour.
