Hiking Tour: “Big Soča Gorge” (Slovenia)

Hike through and above the impressive big gorge of Soča

The tour starts at the parking next to the Kamp Soča and follows the trail next to the river northwards. At the bridge over the impressive gorge, the tour first crosses the bridge and follows the road towards the main road (206) and one of the view points. The tour then follows the road back, crosses the bridge again and then continues following the Soča trail northwards. It is recommended to follow the trail along the river which gets slightly exposed and requires a sure foot but compensates with scenic and very impressive views. Leaving the gorge behind, the tour continues following the trail eastwards till reaching the small village Soča. After a well deserved break at the Gostišče Andrejc, the tour follows the same way back to the parking. On the way back, it is recommended to use the easier hiking route (a bit above the river).

Please note that the small trail directly next to the river is sometimes exposed and requires basic climbing skills and a sure foot!

Tour Description

00:00	Start at the parking lot next to the Soča river (GPS: 46.334929, 13.645620) and follow the hiking trail directly along the river northwards.
00:05	Enjoy the impressive view from the start of the Big Soča Gorge. Continue following the trail along the river northwards.
00:10	At the crossing, first turn left and cross the bridge to detour to the vista point. Follow the road up towards the main road.
00:15	Turn right at the parking and follow the trail towards the vista point. Then turn around and go back towards the bridge.
00:20	After crossing the bridge, turn left and follow the Soča trail.
00:25	At the crossing, stay left and follow the small trail along the Soča river.
00:35	Enjoy the beautiful small waterfalls into the Soča river. Continue following the trail towards the hanging bridge.
00:38	Do not cross the bridge but follow the Soča trail straight ahead.
01:00	At the crossing, turn left into the street, cross the bridge and then turn right into the main street.
01:05	Well deserved break ( ) at Gostišče Andrejc.
01:35	Follow the same route back as the approach.
01:55	At the crossing (after the hanging bridge), keep left and follow the Soča trail back.
02:10	Back at the parking, end of the tour.
