Via Ferrata: “Ferrata Rio Sallagoni (C)” (Italy)

Short but impressive via ferrata through the gorge of Rio Sallagoni. This via ferrata is composed of two parts, the lower (C) very well protected with cables and the upper (B) with less protection (only iron rungs, no cables), allowing impressive views on waterfalls and the unique (soundscape) atmosphere of climbing through a gorge.

Climb through the impressive gorge of Rio Sallagoni (C)

The tour starts at the parking on the SP84 (GPS: 45.971559, 10.933824) and first heads downwards towards the start point of the ferrata. The ferrata itself leads through the impressive gorge along the river and is composed of two parts. The first part is very well protected but some traverses are overhanging (thus require a lot of energy). The highlight of the first part of the ferrata are two cable bridges (very loose) that crosses the Rio Sallagoni river. The second part is easier (B) but only protected by iron rungs (no cable!) and also leads through the upper part of the gorge on very slippery rocks next or sometimes in the river. The ferrata exits at the Castello di Drena which allows an impressive view on the surrounding landscape. The descent is done on a fairly easy hiking route through the forest back to the parking.

Please note that a full “Klettersteigset” (via ferrata set) is mandatory for this tour!
