Ski Touring: “Ebenstein from Jassing”

Demanding but very promising ski tour up to the Großer Ebenstein (2123m) with its amazing scenic panorama view, starting from Jassing (right after the amazing Grüner See) and then through the beautiful Sonnschienalm.

Demanding but promising ski tour up to the Ebenstein from Jassing via the Russenstraße through Sonnschienalm

This long but extremely promising tour starts at the parking Jassing after passing by the beautiful Grüner See (a karst lake surrounded by an impressive mountain scenery that is slowly filled with melt-water) and first follows the hiking trail along and sometimes shortcut the Russenstraße up towards the beautiful Sonnschienalm mountain pasture. It then follows the trail up towards the impressive Ebenstein providing an amazing surround view on the area and especially down to Sonnschienalm. The descent is mainly done like the ascent but depending on snow conditions some detours (more direct way downwards to Sonnschienalm) are needed. It is also recommended to downhill following the Russenstrasse without shortcuts back to the parking.

The tour is also amazing and worth doing it only till the Sonnschienalm and then much easier.

Depending on snow conditions, snow chains might be required on the street between Grüner See and the parking Jassing!

Comment: I did not have crampons with me this time but the last few and very exposed meters to the summit of Großer Ebenstein were covered with ice and very slippery. Thus I was not able to make it to the top and had to turn around 20 meters before the summit.
